A ground-up project, it was particularly rewarding being able to work with the architect and builder, to achieve the homeowner’s vision. Although this house is located on a small island off the west coast of Florida, the client’s mantra was “a house by the beach, not a beach house.” We made concessions to the necessities of a wet, sandy environment by using indoor/outdoor fabrics and rugs as well as a beautiful durable Coralina floor throughout, but the house still exudes a casually formal feel.

Whitewash Paneling

Pecky Cyprus Wood is indigenous to the area. The wood in its natural form is more pink colored so the whitewash painting technique evened out the tones

The Details Are Everywhere.

We had our decorative painter glaze the bathroom vanities and then wipe the glaze off the perimeter of each drawer and door - giving the vanities a subtle jauntiness.

Acknowledging Environment

Because this house has the ability to live very inside out, we chose to use fabrics that reference this in an understated way. For example, foliage patterns are used subtly throughout the entire home.
